This photo shows myself and 36 other Scouts from across Staffordshire that went out to Kenya at Easter 2014 to help with the building of an orphanage. This is the second time I have been out to Kenya as I also went out with another group of scouts to start the building in 2013.
To take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity, I had to raise over £4000 since January 2012, which was not an easy task. I have gained some skills along the way such as bricklaying and plastering; the two activities that helped create the building.
The experience of going out to Kenya has changed my life. Seeing how the majority of Kenyans live, the little items, and food they have has made me realise just how lucky we all are. Having the opportunity to physically help build this orphanage has been heart-warming and amazing. Knowing that I have helped change the lives of young children who have been orphaned and suffered from starvation, homelessness, sexual and physical abuse will be something that I will remember for the rest of my life.
