Students at Landau Forte Academy Tamworth Sixth Form have taken part in the UK Senior Maths Challenge, achieving some excellent results that put them amongst the highest performers in the UK.
84,000 students aged 16-19 from across the UK compete in the event, which involves tackling 25 advanced maths questions under exam conditions.
At Tamworth Sixth Form there was particular success for:
- Tom Gessey Jones (Year 13) who scored 24/25 – a feat achieved by very few of the 84,000 competitors. This put Tom amongst the top 1,000 students in the UK and earned him an invite to the British Mathematical Olympiad where he achieved a Distinction.
- Jake Ison (Year 13) who also achieved a Gold certificate, a place in the UK top 3,000 and a spot in the national Kangaroo Challenge where he earned a Merit.
As well as the successes for Tom and Jake, students at Tamworth Sixth Form were awarded a further 9 Silver certificates (for students in the top 30% in the UK) and 26 Bronze certificates.
Mr Roz Lobo, Director of Learning for Maths at Tamworth Sixth Form, said:
“This is a phenomenal set of achievements for our students and we are very proud of them. In particular, the results earned by Tom and Jake have really put us on the map as a great place to study maths at A-level.”
