We are delighted to be offering students the exciting opportunity to visit Kenya in April 2019 to take part in a local volunteering project through African Adventures.
African Adventures* is the UK’s leading volunteer travel organisation, specialising in educational trips. The company gives young people from around the UK the opportunity to experience a new culture, whilst dedicating their time to truly worthwhile causes. African Adventures partners with schools in Kenya that are specifically providing an education for children from underprivileged backgrounds.
This trip will give students the chance to volunteer at these schools, either in a teaching, sports coaching or a building support role, and help make a lasting difference to a local Kenyan community. Equally, they will learn so much more about the wider world during this exciting and challenging, adventure.
Flying from Birmingham Airport to Nairobi, the trip includes 7 nights in Kenya, with 5 of the days spent volunteering on a specific project. The trip also includes a giraffe sanctuary visit in Nairobi and the Rift Valley Adventure Day – including safari, science and exploration at Lake Nakuru National Safari Park – plus a community visit to a local craft market and farewell celebration.
The cost of the trip is £1,645, paid in instalments and current students at Tamworth Sixth Form can sign up immediately, providing that a signed Consent Form has been received. They will then be able to register onto the African Adventures portal in order to manage their own account and make their own payments.
Most students fundraise to help pay for their trip, and many successfully raise 100% of their trip costs. The Academy has put together a fundraising timetable to help students to do this.
Students joining the Academy in September 2018 will have the opportunity to sign up for the trip at that time.
