The Volare Scheme is a successful part of our programme towards academic excellence at Tamworth Sixth Form.
This programme strives to support academically gifted students by helping them achieve their academic and personal goals while at Sixth Form. We encourage and guide students forward in their post 18+ journey, whether that is accepting places at top Russell Group Universities or applying for competitive Degree Apprenticeships. We also offer bespoke support for students who wish to explore careers in Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary, as well as Oxbridge candidates.
Seminars take place every fortnight for 1 hour and cover a range of topics including critical analysis skills, exam preparation and reflection, revision skills, Super Curricular Activities and UCAS preparation.
We are proud of our proven track record in helping a wide range of students achieve excellent results at A-level and many Alumni have gone on to attend some of the best courses and Apprenticeships in the country, including Philosophy at Oxford, Engineering at Cambridge, and a range of Medical, Bio-Med and Veterinary students.
What does the Volare Scheme look like throughout the year?
- A series of lessons on critical analysis skills – University Research has shown a lack of critical thinking skills from young people, who often struggle in the modern day to judge information and evaluate its meaning and value. These seminars are designed to stretch students’ comprehension, getting them to think, read and write more critically, allowing them to engage with their subject matter on a more meaningful level
- Research of Super Curricular activities which enhance student understanding of their own subject and develop interests in their chosen field
- Seminars on University and Degree Apprenticeship applications which provide students with a range of information and ideas about what the top universities and companies are looking for
- Trips to top University sites and libraries to engage in personal and academic development activities
- Revision skills workshops and post PPE reflection sessions which help students set goals for each semester
- Help with interview and presentation skills training
- Specialist support from staff and alumni of the Volare Scheme who now attend Oxbridge, Apprenticeships and top universities for Medicine and Dentistry, which provides a support network for students moving forward in their Sixth Form and Post 18+ journey
Who can join the Volare Programme?
Places are offered to students who achieve an average APS score of over 7 at GCSE and a proven track record of academic excellence, but individual context is taken into place when offering space to students.
